Kailash is a hobbyist software developer who released his first FOSS project in 2002 while in school; bMachine, a blogging platform. He obtained a PhD in Artificial Intelligence in 2010. Over the last decade, he has been the CTO at Zerodha, now India’s largest stock broking firm.

Zerodha has a FOSS program and fund that supports FOSS projects that it uses. In 2020, he co-founded the FOSS United Foundation, a non-profit organisation that supports the FOSS ecosystem in India. He writes software and works on his hobby projects on a daily basis, and has a concerning level of addiction to tinkering and getting involved in new projects.
