Gidi has been in the tech industry for a couple of decades, enjoying the privilege of an early start as a 2nd generation developer.

In that time he’s criss-crossed between engineering jobs and management jobs, but remained an active member of the JS Open Source community throughout, contributing to a variety of prominent projects. This involvement in OSS along side unhealthy work practices led to him burning out several years ago and almost leaving the tech industry as a whole. This concern has grown further as he mentors newcomers entering the industry, many of whom have expressed a mixed interest and pressure to get involved in OSS, which what led him to attend the Sustain Summit in 2018, where we first met.

Today Gidi works on Open Source software at Elastic, mentors industry newcomers out of hours and is actively involved in the Extreme Programming & Tech Ethics communities in London.
